This is the most valuable card within the classic 25-issue 1909 E95 Philadelphia Caramel set. One of several E-card sets from 1909 to feature Tigers Hall-of-Fame great Ty Cobb, this issue is especially popular because of its intensely haunting, fierce image of Cobb.

1909 was an extraordinary year for Ty, as he became just the fourth hitter ever to win the Triple Crown Award. His totals included a .377 batting average, 107 RBI's, and just nine home runs. Interestingly, all nine of his home runs were inside-the-park, and this was the only time in the modern era that someone led the league in round trippers without ever hitting the ball over the fence.

The offered example is simply stunning. It's nicely centered with clean ivory-white borders, a crystal-clear and finely detailed image of Cobb, pristine surface quality and absolutely blistering ruby-red background color. The corners exhibit just a moderate, even touch of wear, and the reverse is exceptionally clean.

Though there are a few copies graded higher than this example, it seems hard to imagine that any have better overall eye-appeal.
